The active element in CaFe is calcium. The Ca+Fe mixture is employed for Al-killed steel treatment to shun silicon addition. Due to its low boiling point, low density, and high oxidability, calcium is required to be released near the ladle bottom to have the best recovery. Therefore, cored-wire is the most potent way to achieve this goal. During deoxidation and inclusion transformation, calcium treatment efficiency plays a very critical role.
