Electrolytic manganese is produced by extracting manganese salts from manganese ore through acid leaching, followed by electrolysis in an electrolytic cell to obtain pure manganese metal. It has an iron-like appearance, occurring in irregular flakes, with a strong and brittle texture. One side is shiny, while the other is rough. Its color ranges from silver to brown and becomes silver-gray when processed into powder. It oxidizes easily in air, dissolves in dilute acid while replacing hydrogen, and can decompose water to release hydrogen at slightly above room temperature.
