Vanadium pentoxide flake is hardly soluble in water, but vanadic acid is generated to make the solution acidic. Although it is insoluble in sulfuric acid and nitric acid, it is soluble in alkaline aqueous solution, and soluble in hydrochloric acid, which releases chlorine gas and is reduced to ⅳ+oxidation state.

In the production process, vanadium pentoxide flake is usually made through a series of complicated process steps. These steps include raw material pretreatment, roasting, vanadium liquid precipitation and crystallization, vanadate decomposition, drying and smelting. Among them, drying and smelting are the key steps.
