Ferro Silicon Alloy knowledge
There are several main reasons for adding ferrosilicon to the steelmaking process:
Alloying elements: Ferrosilicon is an alloy material containing silicon and iron. Adding ferrosilicon can introduce alloying elements silicon and iron into the molten steel. Silicon is a good deoxidizer that can react with oxygen to form silicon dioxide and remove oxygen from molten steel, thereby reducing the oxygen content in steel and reducing the degree of oxidation of steel.
At the same time, silicon can also improve the fluidity and wettability of molten steel, which is beneficial to the pouring and solidification process of molten steel.
Removal of impurities: Silicon in ferrosilicon can form volatile compounds with some harmful impurities such as phosphorus and sulfur, which promotes the separation of these impurities from molten steel, thus purifying molten steel. Especially in the converter steelmaking process, adding an appropriate amount of ferrosilicon can effectively reduce the phosphorus content in molten steel.
