Ferrosilicon – The Backbone of Modern Steelmaking
Ferrosilicon (FeSi), an alloy of iron and silicon (typically 15-90% Si), is a cornerstone of metallurgical processes. Produced via carbothermic reduction in submerged arc furnaces, its high silicon content (e.g., 75% Si grade) enables dual functions: as a potent deoxidizer to remove oxygen from molten steel and as a silicon source for enhancing alloy strength. With a melting point of 1,200–1,400°C and density of 3.5–5.0 g/cm³, FeSi ensures rapid dissolution in steel baths, minimizing energy consumption. Key applications include electrical steel production (3% Si addition improves magnetic permeability) and magnesium refining (used in 95% of global Mg production).
Our FeSi grades (45%, 65%, 75%, 90% Si) feature ultra-low impurity profiles (Al < 1.5%, C < 0.2%, P < 0.04%), achieved through proprietary slag-refining techniques. Granulometry ranges from standard 10-50mm lumps to 3-10mm granules for precision dosing in automated steel mills. Third-party verified sulfur content (<0.02%) ensures compliance with ASTM A100 specifications for high-integrity castings.
