Products Description
This method is based on the use of ferrosilicon as a reductant, giving the overall reaction (CaO) + [Si]FeSi → [CaSi2 + Si + FeSi2] + (2CaO·SiO2). Because the chemical affinity of silicon for oxygen is lower than that of calcium, the reaction can proceed in the direction of obtaining calcium–silicon only in the case of a substantial reduction of the activity of calcium. This specifies high silicon and lower calcium content in the final alloy. Reaction equilibrium is achieved at relatively low concentrations of calcium, so the method can be used to obtain lower grades of calcium–silicon (referred to as FeSiCa) with calcium at less than 20%.
