Magnesium Ingot With Low Density

The smelting methods of magnesium ingots mainly include electrolysis and silicon thermal reduction (also known as Pijiang method). The electrolysis method uses direct current to electrolyze molten anhydrous magnesium chloride to decompose magnesium and chlorine. This method is simple in process and low in energy consumption and is highly respected. The silicon thermal reduction method uses calcined dolomite as raw material, ferrosilicon as reducing agent, and fluorite as catalyst for metering. After grinding, it is pressed into balls, which are called pellets. The pellets are placed in a reduction tank, heated to 1250℃, and the inside is evacuated to 13.3Pa or higher, which will produce magnesium vapor. Magnesium vapor forms crystalline magnesium, also known as crude magnesium, in the condenser at the front end of the reduction tank. The crude magnesium is heated and melted, refined with a solvent, and cast into magnesium ingots through a continuous casting machine.

Magnesium ingots are the main raw material for making magnesium alloys. These alloys have good strength and corrosion resistance and are widely used in aerospace, automobile, electronics and other industrial fields. Magnesium ingots are used as flux in the foundry industry to obtain uniform structure on the surface of castings and improve product quality. At the same time, magnesium ingots are also used to manufacture parts in aerospace, automobiles, motorcycles, ships and other mechanical equipment. Magnesium ingots can produce dazzling white light when burning, so they are used to make white sparks in fireworks and fireworks.
