Its main components include silicon (Si), barium (Ba), calcium (Ca) and aluminum (Al), among others. Among them, the content of silicon is usually between 65% and 72%, the content of barium is between 1% and 6%, and the content of calcium and aluminum is relatively low. Ingredient content may vary from plant to plant or from batch to batch.

Particle size and applicable process

 

The particle size range of barium silica inoculant is usually between 0.2~0.8mm, which makes it suitable for the flow inoculation process. The in-stream inoculation process ensures more accurate control of the inoculation amount and thus improves the quality of the casting. In addition, there are other particle size specifications such as 1~3mm and 3~8mm for barium silicon, which can be processed and produced according to customer needs.

Barium silica inoculant is mainly used in the preparation of ductile iron and gray cast iron. In ductile iron, barium silicon inoculant can significantly increase the number of graphite balls, make the graphite form more rounded and fine, and thus improve the nodularization grade and casting performance. In gray cast iron, the barium silicon inoculant can reduce the tendency of whitening, refine the grain, promote the formation of A-type graphite, and improve the strength of cast iron.

Usage methods of silicon barium

 

How to use: Put the barium silica inoculant on top of the nodularizing agent in the molten iron ladle, and rush into the molten iron ladle with the molten iron flow when the iron is tapped. At the time of pouring, the barium silicate inoculant can be inoculated into the mold with the flow.

Addition amount control: The amount of barium silica inoculant should be controlled within a certain range, too high inoculation amount will increase the viscosity of molten iron and slag inclusion, keyhole, shrinkage and porosity tendency. Generally, the addition amount is controlled between 0.3% ~ 0.6%.

Stirring and slag scraping: After incubation, the molten iron should be fully stirred to ensure the uniform distribution of inoculants, and the slag scraping treatment should be carried out to remove scum and impurities.
