Silicon-Barium Alloy (Silicon-Barium Alloy, referred to as Silicon-Barium) is a kind of iron alloy with silicon (Si) and barium (Ba) as the main components, which is widely used in steel and foundry industries. Its main role is as a deoxidizer, desulfurizer and inoculant, used to improve the quality of steel and castings.

- Chemical composition:
- Silicon (Si) Content: 30%~65
- Barium (Ba) content: 10% ~ 35
- Other elements: small amount of iron (Fe), calcium (Ca) and a small amount of impurities.
- Appearance: gray or dark gray lump, hard texture.
- Melting point: low, usually between 1200 ℃ ~ 1350 ℃, conducive to rapid dissolution in the steel.
- Density: high (due to the high density of barium), so that it is evenly distributed in the steel.

Silicon barium alloy is mainly prepared by carbothermal reduction method or electric furnace smelting process:
1. Raw material preparation: Silica (SiO₂), barite (BaSO₄) or other barium minerals are used as raw materials.
2. High-temperature reduction: use coke to reduce barium and silicon at high temperature and synthesize the alloy.
3. Cooling and molding: the alloy liquid is cooled to form lump or granular products.

1. Iron and steel industry.
- Deoxidizer:
- Silicon and barium work together to effectively remove oxygen from steel, reduce inclusions and improve the purity of steel.
- Desulfurizer:
- Barium has a strong desulfurization ability and reacts with sulfur to produce stable sulfides, thus reducing the sulfur content in steel.
- Improves steel properties:
- The addition of silica barium can refine the grain organization of steel and enhance the mechanical properties of steel.
2. Foundry industry.
- Breeding agent:
- Silicon barium can significantly improve the graphitization effect of cast iron and optimize the morphology and distribution of graphite.
- It improves the strength and toughness of castings and reduces defects such as porosity and cracks.
- It is suitable for the production of high-performance castings such as gray cast iron and ductile iron.
3. Other applications
- It has some applications in the field of electromagnetic materials and special alloys to improve material properties.
