The biological activated carbon (BAC) technology was used to treat ferro-silicon-manganese simulated water, and the existence and contribution rate of biological action in the removal of iron and manganese by activated carbon (AC) were explored, and the backwashing parameters were optimized. The removal effect of BAC on iron and manganese was better than that of AC, which proved the existence of biological action; the removal of iron mainly relied on chemical oxidation and physicochemical action, and a small part relied on biological action; while the removal of manganese was mainly biological action; the backwashing cycle of BAC filter column was greatly affected by season, and the backwashing duration was preferably 3.5-5.0 min.

1.The influencing factors of biological removal of ferro silicon manganese in groundwater were analyzed. When the DO of groundwater was 7.0~7.5mg/L and the pH was 6.8~7.0 after aeration, the manganese oxidizing bacteria in the biological filter layer could maintain good activity and manganese removal ability, and the process could meet the requirements of simultaneous removal of iron and manganese. The "mature filter media transplantation" biological filtration method proposed in this study is suitable for inoculation of high-quality manganese sand filter layers with strong Mn2+ adsorption capacity, while for quartz sand filter layers with weak adsorption capacity, only laboratory selective culture medium with large bacterial quantity can be used to domesticate the inoculation method of manganese oxidizing bacteria; when the backwashing intensity of manganese sand and quartz sand biological filter layers is controlled in the lower range of 6~9L/(s.m2) and 7~11L/(s.m2), the microbial phase of the filter layer is less disturbed, and the iron and manganese removal capacity can be restored within 5h after backwashing. At the same time, the filter layer uses 1.0~1.2mm homogeneous filter media, and the filtration cycle can still be extended to 35~38h under low backwashing intensity.
