Ferrosilicon production process
Ferrosilicon is an important raw material used in steelmaking. This alloy has good deoxidation and desulfurization capabilities. Its production process mainly includes beneficiation, roasting, reduction, smelting and other links. First of all, the production process of ferrosilicon starts with beneficiation. Ore is usually beneficiated with iron- and silicon-rich ores. Common ores include magnetite and manganese ore. The purpose of beneficiation is to increase the content of iron and silicon and reduce the content of impurities, so as to obtain high-quality ferrosilicon in subsequent production processes.
The next step is roasting. The ore after beneficiation is sent to the roasting furnace for calcination. The purpose of roasting is to burn out the moisture and impurities such as calcined water and carbon dioxide in the ore through high temperature to increase the content of iron and silicon. During the roasting process, the ore will undergo chemical reactions to generate gas and solid products. The solid product is called roasted ore, and the gas product is called reducing gas. The roasted ore is sent to the reduction furnace for the next step of treatment.
