Ferroalloy refers to an alloy composed of one or more metal or non-metal elements and iron. Ferrosilicon is an alloy of silicon and iron. The production process of fe silicon involves smelting with coke, steel scrap, and quartz (or silica) as raw materials in an electric furnace. In traditional Fesi Ferrosilicon refining, silicon is reduced from silica containing SiO2. Metallurgical coke is often used as the reducing agent, while steel scrap serves as a modifier for 75% Fe Si Foundry Grade. In fact, the reaction mechanism of Fe Silicon is quite complex.
Although researchers propose different reduction mechanisms, there are a few indisputable points, including the formation and decomposition of intermediate products such as silicon carbide and silicon monoxide during the smelting process. Silicon monoxide plays a significant role in the entire reduction process of silica.Silicon Ferro is often used as a deoxidizer in steelmaking, where it is utilized for precipitation and diffusion deoxidation. It also serves as an alloying agent in steelmaking.
Adding a certain amount of silicon to steel can significantly improve its strength, hardness, and elasticity, increase its magnetic permeability, and reduce magnetic hysteresis loss in transformer steel. At the same time, SiO2 generates a large amount of heat, which is beneficial for increasing the temperature of molten steel during deoxidation. Ferrosilicon can also be used as an alloying element additive, widely applied in low-alloy structural steel, combined steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel, electrical steel, etc. Additionally, ferrosilicon is commonly used as a reducing agent in ferroalloy production and the chemical industry.
Moreover, ferrosilicon can be used as an inoculant to improve the properties of ductile iron. It is also employed as a suspended phase in the mineral processing industry. Ferrosilicon powder can be used in the production of welding fluxes.
