Carbothermal reduction and nitridation method: Researchers from China University of Geosciences use iron ore powder, quartz powder, and coke powder as the main raw materials (all with particle sizes below 0.3mm), add a room temperature binder, mix them in a certain proportion, and perform carbothermal reduction and nitridation sintering at appropriate temperatures. After cooling, crushing, and grinding, high-performance Fe-Si3N4 refractory raw materials suitable for various types of gunning refractory materials can be obtained.

Direct nitridation method: The traditional preparation method is to directly use ferro-silicon powder for nitridation reaction at high temperatures. This method is simple, requires low equipment demands, and has a low reaction temperature. It is a relatively simple and widely used experimental method. However, its disadvantages include slow nitridation speed, long nitridation time, and high energy consumption. Additionally, to achieve a higher β-Si3N4 content, long-term high-temperature nitridation is required, leading to increased energy consumption.
