In the steelmaking industry, silicon balls are mainly used as a deoxidizer and alloying agent. To obtain steel with qualified chemical composition and ensure its quality, deoxidization is essential in steelmaking. Silicon has a strong chemical affinity with oxygen, making silicon balls a strong deoxidizer for precipitation and diffusion deoxidation in steelmaking. Adding an appropriate amount of silicon to steel can significantly improve its strength, hardness, and elasticity.
Additionally, due to their ability to release a large amount of heat when burned at high temperatures, silicon balls are often used as heat generators for steel ingot caps to improve the quality and recovery rate of steel ingots. Adding an appropriate amount of silicon to steel can also significantly improve its magnetic conductivity and reduce hysteresis losses in transformer steel. Furthermore, silicon balls can be used as inoculants in ductile iron to prevent carbide formation, aid in the precipitation and spheroidization of graphite, and improve the performance of cast iron.
