Enhancing Steel Performance with High-Purity Ferrotitanium
In steel production, ferrotitanium acts as a powerful deoxidizer and carbide stabilizer. Adding 0.1-2.5% FeTi reduces oxygen content to <10 ppm, minimizing porosity in continuous casting. Its titanium component forms stable TiC particles at 1,200°C, increasing steel hardness by 15-20% while maintaining ductility. Automotive manufacturers utilize FeTi-enhanced HSLA steels (e.g., ASTM A572) for lightweight crash-resistant components, achieving tensile strengths up to 690 MPa.
