Ferrovanadium is a ferroalloy, consisting primarily of vanadium and iron, which is commonly used in the steel industry as an additive to improve the properties of steel. The main method of production of ferrovanadium is by pyrometallurgy, usually from vanadium-bearing minerals or vanadium oxide.
Ferro vanadium features
1. Hardness and Strength: Vanadium is capable of significantly increasing the hardness and strength of steel, particularly in the manufacture of high-strength alloy steels where ferrovanadium is used as a strengthening agent.
2. Wear Resistance: The addition of ferrovanadium gives the steel better wear resistance and makes it suitable for use in applications where it is subjected to intense friction and wear.
3. Heat and corrosion resistance: Vanadium containing steels have good heat resistance, retaining their strength and hardness at elevated temperatures, as well as good resistance to oxidation and corrosion.
4. Grain Refinement: Vanadium has a grain refining effect in steel, which helps to improve toughness and ductility and reduce brittleness.
5. Micro-alloying effect: Ferro Vanadium is commonly used in micro-alloyed steels, where it can significantly improve the properties of the steel, such as increased strength and improved weldability, in spite of the relatively small amount of vanadium added.

1. Steel Industry:
- High Strength Low Alloy Steel (HSLA): Ferrovanadium is widely used in the production of high strength low alloy steels, which are high strength, lightweight and corrosion resistant and are commonly used in structures such as buildings, bridges and pressure vessels.
- Tool and Mould Steels: Ferro Vanadium is an important alloying element in tool and mould steels, it enhances the wear resistance and hardness of the steel, enabling it to withstand frequent impacts and friction, and prolonging the service life of tools and moulds.
- Spring Steels: Spring steels containing vanadium have high elasticity and fatigue resistance and are widely used in the manufacture of suspension systems for automobiles and railways.
2. Aerospace industry: Vanadium-iron alloys are used in the aerospace industry to manufacture components that require high strength, heat and corrosion resistance, such as turbine blades and frames for aero-engines.
3. ENERGY INDUSTRY: Ferrovanadium is used in the oil, gas and power industries for the manufacture of pipework and equipment that is resistant to high temperatures, pressures and corrosion, and which needs to be used for long periods of time in harsh conditions.
4. Metallurgical and Chemical Equipment: Ferro Vanadium is used in the manufacture of a variety of corrosion-resistant, high-temperature-resistant chemical equipment and containers, such as reactors and tanks, which are capable of maintaining a long service life in corrosive environments, such as strong acids and alkalis.
