Ferro Alloy Additive Ferrovanadium

Ferrovanadium is an iron alloy, which is obtained by reducing vanadium pentoxide with carbon in an electric furnace. It is mainly used as an alloy additive for steelmaking. Ferrovanadium is supplied in bulk or powder form. The surface and section of ferrovanadium block and vanadium powder do not contain obvious inclusions visible to the naked eye.

Ferrovanadium is an important alloy additive in iron and steel industry. Commonly used ferrovanadium contains 40%, 60% and 80% vanadium. The main raw material of ferrovanadium production in China is vanadium-titanium magnetite.About 90% of vanadium consumed in the world is used in iron and steel industry, mainly for smelting alloy steel.

Pure vanadium is shiny white and hard in texture. Vanadium can improve the strength, toughness, ductility and heat resistance of steel. Steel containing vanadium is hard and solid, but generally its vanadium content is less than 1%. Metal vanadium can be used in the fields of cast iron, cemented carbide, superconducting materials and nuclear reactor materials, etc. Adding ferrovanadium to tool steel can increase the tempering stability of steel, improve its wear resistance and prolong the service life of tools. And High-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA) containing vanadium has great strength, so it is widely used in the production and construction of oil/gas pipelines, buildings, rails, pressure vessels, carriage frames and so on. 

Ti-6Al-4V alloy is highly valued in the United States, and its output accounts for more than half of titanium-based vanadium alloy. Because vanadium can improve the strength, toughness, ductility and heat resistance of steel, it is an excellent high-temperature structural material for making airplanes and rockets.
