Ferrovanadium (FeV) is an alloy formed by combining iron and vanadium with a vanadium content range of 35–85%. The production of this alloy results in a grayish silver crystalline solid that can be crushed into a powder called "ferrovanadium dust". Ferrovanadium is a universal hardener, strengthener and anti-corrosive additive for steels like high-strength low-alloy steel, tool steels, as well as other ferrous-based products. It has significant advantages over both iron and vanadium individually.

Ferrovanadium Description
1. Steel industry: Ferrovanadium is widely used in the production of steel, particularly in the manufacture of high-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA steel). Vanadium significantly improves the strength, toughness and wear resistance of steel, as well as its fatigue resistance. Steel with vanadium added has a wide range of applications in construction, bridge and vehicle manufacture.
2. Tool steels and high-temperature alloys: Ferrovanadium is used in the manufacture of tool steels and high-temperature alloys, which require high strength, high hardness and high-temperature resistance. The addition of vanadium can significantly improve the properties of these alloys, making them widely used in areas such as cutting tools, moulds and turbine blades.
3. Vanadium batteries: Vanadium batteries (e.g. all-vanadium liquid flow batteries) are a new type of energy storage technology with the advantages of high energy density, long life and fast charge/discharge capability. Ferrovanadium is used indirectly in the manufacture of these batteries as one of the raw materials for vanadium.

4. Aerospace: In the aerospace sector, ferrovanadium is used in the manufacture of high performance titanium alloys which have excellent strength-to-weight ratios and corrosion resistance and are suitable for use in key components of aircraft and spacecraft.
5. Chemical Industry: Vanadium is widely used as a catalyst in the chemical industry, for example in the catalytic oxidation process in the production of sulphuric acid. Ferrovanadium can be used as a raw material for these catalysts.
The superior properties of ferrovanadium enable it to be used in a wide range of applications in a number of fields, particularly where high strength, wear and temperature resistant materials are required.
