Ferrovanadium 80 is usually produced by the following methods:
- Aluminum Thermal Reduction: Using vanadium ores (e.g. vanadium-titanium magnetite) or vanadium pentoxide (V₂O₅) and aluminum powders at high temperatures to obtain ferrovanadium alloys with high vanadium content.
- Carbon Thermal Reduction: Made by reducing vanadium ore with carbon and combining it with iron in an electric arc furnace.

1. Iron and steel industry
- Used as alloy additives, mainly used in the production of high-strength low alloy steel (HSLA steel), tool steel, stainless steel, heat-resistant steel and so on.
- Vanadium significantly increases the strength, toughness and wear resistance of steel, while improving its corrosion resistance and weldability.
- Vanadium forms carbides in steel, which can refine grain size and inhibit grain boundary segregation, thus improving the mechanical properties of steel.
2. Foundry industry
- Used in the modification of cast iron to enhance the hardness and wear resistance of castings.
3. Other uses
- Preparation of certain special materials or new alloys.
