Uses of vanadium pentoxide
Vanadium pentoxide is used in the smelting of alloy steels such as stainless steel, the catalytic oxidation of sulfur dioxide in the production of sulfuric acid, and as a catalyst in the manufacture of organic acids, pigments, ferrites, batteries and phosphors.

1. Steel additives
As an additive to steel, vanadium accounts for 90% of vanadium consumption and has the effects of enhancing hardness, high melting point, and corrosion resistance. Ferrovanadium alloys have excellent toughness, heat resistance and corrosion resistance and are used in automobiles, construction reinforcements, turbines and tool steels.

2. Organic synthesis catalysts
As a strong oxidizing agent, vanadium pentoxide can oxidize stable compounds such as benzene and naphthalene into maleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride respectively. It also plays a key role in the contact process that produces sulfuric acid by oxidizing sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide.

3. Battery materials
Vanadium pentoxide is a key material for vanadium redox batteries used for large-scale energy storage, and can be used as the main material of various types of batteries. It is also used for charge injection and extraction in organic electronic devices.
