A magnesium alloy production process, which is characterised by the use of a two-step method to produce alloys, the first step is to melt crude magnesium or magnesium ingots in a coal-fired furnace, and the second step is to introduce the molten magnesium liquid into an electric furnace crucible with a metal pump for refining and alloying. The present invention has been tested by production practice and obtains good economic benefits.

1.Ultrasonic treatment can homogenise the composition of magnesium ingots, increase the solid solubility of Gd in the magnesium matrix, and have better degassing and impurity removal effects, resulting in densified magnesium ingots. The appropriate time (40sec~80sec) for ultrasonic treatment can significantly refine the casting microstructure, ensuring that the second phase transformation of the precipitated Mg5Gd is small and discontinuous, but excessive ultrasonic treatment duration will reduce the degassing effect. Under the same process parameters, ultrasonic treatment at a higher melt temperature (superheat of 50K) can achieve better degassing efficiency and effect. At the same time, the mechanism of the effect of ultrasonic treatment on the casting microstructure of magnesium alloy is also analysed.
