Powders with silicon magnesium as the main phase were prepared by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis technology, and then single-phase MgSiN2 powders were obtained by removing impurities using an acid washing process. The effects of raw material ratio, the amount of diluent MgSiN2 added and N2 pressure on the phase composition of the combustion synthesis product were studied, and the effect of acid washing conditions on the removal of MgO impurities was discussed. It is difficult to directly synthesize single-phase MgSiN2 powders by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis using raw materials prepared in a stoichiometric ratio; making Mg powder excessive in the raw materials and acid washing the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis product is a simple, practical and effective method for preparing single-phase MgSiN2 powders.
