Products chemical reactions
It can be seen that metal silicon exhibits diverse chemical reactions under different conditions. At high temperatures, it reacts with non-metals like halogens, nitrogen, and carbon, and can also form silicides with metals such as magnesium, calcium, and iron.
The almost insolubility of amorphous silicon in all inorganic and organic acids, including hydrofluoric acid, is notable, yet it can dissolve in the mixed acids of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid. The ability of a concentrated sodium hydroxide solution to dissolve amorphous silicon and release hydrogen gas is an interesting phenomenon. On the other hand, crystalline silicon demonstrates relatively low reactivity. It does not combine with oxygen even at high temperatures and remains insoluble in any inorganic or organic acid. However, it can be dissolved in mixed acids of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid as well as concentrated sodium hydroxide solutions.
