Metal silicon is smelted from silica and carbonaceous reducing agents in a submerged arc furnace. The material is categorized in line with the major impurities, including aluminum, calcium, and ferrum. It has the properties of high hardness, non-water absorption aging resistance, etc.

Applications
-Metal silicon can be used as a casting material to improve the toughness and thermal fatigue resistance of castings and reduce casting defects and deformation. Steel-making is an area where silicon plays a critical role since it has a great promotion effect on tempering the functions of metal products in the steel tempering process. Most cast aluminum alloys contain silicon because the silicon could also act as an alloying agent in aluminum casting as well.
