Description

By Purity Level

Metallurgical Grade Silicon (MG-Si):
This is the most common type of metallic silicon, with a purity ranging from 98% to 99%. It is primarily used in the production of aluminum alloys, silicones, and as a raw material for further refining into higher-purity silicon.

Solar Grade Silicon (SOG-Si):
With a purity of 99.9999% (6N), solar-grade silicon is used in the manufacture of photovoltaic cells for solar panels. It is produced by further purifying metallurgical-grade silicon.

Electronic Grade Silicon (EG-Si):
This is the highest purity silicon, with a purity of 99.9999999% (9N) or higher. It is used in the semiconductor industry for manufacturing integrated circuits, microchips, and other electronic components.

By Application

Aluminum Alloy Additive:
Metallic silicon is added to aluminum alloys to improve their strength, castability, and corrosion resistance. This type of silicon typically has a purity of around 98-99%.

Chemical Industry:
Silicon is used in the production of silicones, silanes, and other silicon-based chemicals. The silicon used in this sector usually has a purity of 98-99.5%.

Photovoltaic Industry:
High-purity silicon is essential for the production of solar cells. Solar-grade silicon is processed into wafers and then used to create photovoltaic modules.

Semiconductor Industry:
Ultra-high-purity silicon is required for the production of semiconductors. Electronic-grade silicon is processed into single-crystal ingots and then sliced into wafers for use in electronic devices.

By Production Process

Primary Silicon:
This is silicon produced directly from silica in an electric arc furnace. It typically has a purity of 98-99% and is used as a raw material for further refining or in metallurgical applications.

Refined Silicon:
Refined silicon is produced by further purifying primary silicon through chemical or physical processes. This includes solar-grade and electronic-grade silicon, which undergo multiple purification steps to achieve the required purity levels.

By Crystal Structure

Polycrystalline Silicon:
Polycrystalline silicon, or polysilicon, consists of multiple small silicon crystals. It is widely used in the solar industry for the production of solar panels.

Monocrystalline Silicon:
Monocrystalline silicon is composed of a single, continuous crystal lattice. It is used in high-efficiency solar cells and semiconductor devices due to its superior electrical properties.
