Silicon Briquette is a spherical metallurgical material made from silicon powder or silicon ore after high temperature treatment, the main component is silicon (Si). Silicon ball is a common metallurgical auxiliary material, widely used in steel, foundry and other industrial fields, especially used as deoxidiser and alloying agent in smelting process.

 

Silicon Briquette applications


1. Iron and steel industry:
- Silicon balls are often used as a deoxidiser in the steelmaking process. Silicon can effectively remove oxygen from steel and improve the purity and quality of steel.
- Silicon spheres can also be used as an alloying element to be added to speciality steels such as low alloy steels and silicon steels to improve the strength, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the steel.

 

2. Casting:
- Silicon spheres can improve the fluidity and plasticity of castings, increase metal flow during casting, and reduce porosity and cracks in castings.
- It also regulates the graphite morphology of castings and improves the properties of grey cast iron and ductile iron.

 

3. Ferrosilicon production:
- Silicon spheres are also an important raw material for the production of ferrosilicon. Ferrosilicon is widely used in the deoxidation and alloying process in iron and steel smelting.

 

4. Semiconductor and electronics industry:
- Silicon spheres may also be used as a raw material in the manufacture of high-purity silicon materials. High-purity silicon is the core material for semiconductors, solar cells and other electronic products.

- High deoxidising capacity: the high silicon content in silicon balls can effectively react with oxygen to form silicon dioxide, thus enhancing the deoxidising effect in the smelting process.


- Excellent physical properties: the shape and density of silica balls make it easier to control the amount of input during smelting and release it evenly when melting.


- Energy saving and consumption reduction: Since the silicon balls are moulded by high temperature sintering, they have higher physical stability and lower loss compared with silicon powder or lump silicon.

The production of silicon balls generally includes the following steps:


1. Silicon Ore Processing: The silicon ore is purified and impurities are removed to obtain high purity silicon powder.


2. Pellet Forming: Silicon powder or silicon ore powder is pressed into spherical particles by adding binder.


3. High-temperature sintering: Silicon balls are sintered in a high-temperature furnace to give them better strength and heat resistance.

 

Silicon balls are an important raw material in iron and steel smelting, which improves the efficiency of the metallurgical process, optimises the properties of steel and plays a key role in several industrial sectors.
