Silicon calcium alloy is a composite alloy composed of the elements silicon, calcium and iron. It belongs to the category of ferroalloys and is an ideal composite deoxidizer and desulfurizer. It is widely used in the field of steel smelting. The main components of silicon calcium alloy are silicon (Si) and calcium (Ca), and generally contain different amounts of impurities such as iron (Fe), aluminum (Al), carbon (C), sulfur (S) and phosphorus (P). The specific composition ratio varies depending on the production method and purpose. Common silicon calcium alloy grades include Ca31Si60, Ca28Si60, Ca24Si60, Ca20Si55, etc. These grades indicate the approximate content range of calcium and silicon in the alloy.

The production process of calcium silicon alloy mainly includes one-step method and two-step method. The one-step method is to put the weighed and evenly mixed lime, silica and carbonaceous reducing agent into an electric furnace to refine calcium silicon alloy. According to the different feeding methods, the one-step method can be divided into mixed feeding method and layered feeding method. The equipment conditions and operation methods required for the two-step method to produce calcium silicon alloy are basically the same as those for ferrosilicon production, but the process is difficult to control, the requirements for raw materials are strict, and the comprehensive power consumption is high, so it is relatively less used.

The calcium and silicon in silicon-calcium alloys have a strong chemical affinity for oxygen and therefore have a strong deoxidation ability. Silicon calcium alloy is mainly used as a deoxidizer, desulfurizer and modifier of non-metallic inclusions in steel smelting. It can improve the purity of steel and reduce the number of non-metallic inclusions, thereby improving the performance and quality of steel. In cast iron production, in addition to deoxidation and purification, silicon calcium alloy also plays a nucleation role, which helps to form fine or spherical graphite, make the graphite in gray cast iron evenly distributed, reduce the tendency of white cast iron, and increase silicon, desulfurize, and improve the quality of cast iron. Silicon calcium alloy can also be used to manufacture refractory materials, heat-resistant parts of the power metallurgical industry, and basic raw materials for high organic silicon polymers.
