Silicon metal 553 is a type of metallurgical silicon whose nomenclature is also based on its impurity content. 553 has the following specific meanings:

- 5: It means that the iron (Fe) content in silicon does not exceed 0.5 per cent.
- 5: represents silicon in the aluminium (Al) content does not exceed 0.5%.
- 3: the calcium (Ca) content in silicon does not exceed 0.3%.

- Relatively low purity: Compared to the higher purity 2202, 553 contains more impurities, making it suitable for use in applications where extremely high purity silicon is not required.


- Lower cost: Because it is not as pure as higher grade silicon products, silicon metal 553 is relatively inexpensive to produce and is therefore widely used in many industrial applications.


- Chemical Stability: Despite its high impurity content, Silicon Metal 553 has the basic chemical stability of silicon and can be used in a wide range of environments.

- Aluminium alloy smelting: Silicon metal 553 is commonly used in aluminium alloy production as an additive to enhance the mechanical properties of aluminium, such as strength, corrosion resistance and wear resistance.


- Production of silicone compounds: 553 is often used as a base material for the production of chemical products such as silicone rubber, silicone oil and silicone resin.


- Ferrosilicon production: It is also an important raw material for the production of ferrosilicon alloys. Ferrosilicon is mainly used in the steelmaking process as a deoxidiser and alloy additive.


- Solar Photovoltaic Field: Although 553 has a lower purity, it can also be used in the solar cell field in some cases, especially for polysilicon products that do not require high purity.
