Alloy Cored Wire For Matallurgy

Alloy Cored Wire For Matallurgy

The purpose of the cored wire is to crush different additives (deoxidizer, desulfurizer, modifier, alloy, etc.) into a certain particle size to be added to the molten iron or steel. Cold-rolled low-carbon steel strips are then used to integrate the additives into one body with any length of composite material.

Description

Alloy cored wire is a metallurgical material commonly used in the steelmaking process to add trace alloying elements to molten steel for the purposes of alloying, deoxidizing, desulfurizing and inclusions treatment. Core wire is a composite material whose core consists of different alloying elements and whose exterior is wrapped with steel strip or other metallic materials.

Alloy Cored wire composition and structure

- Core Composition: Depending on different applications, the core composition can contain a variety of alloying elements, such as calcium, titanium, vanadium, aluminum, silicon, barium, manganese, magnesium, chromium and so on.
- External wrapping: Materials such as steel tape or aluminum skin are usually used as the external wrapping layer to protect the core alloying components and prevent them from reacting with oxygen or moisture in the air.

Alloy Cored Wire

alloy cored wire principal function

Alloy core wire plays a key role in steelmaking, mainly including the following aspects:

- Alloying: The precise addition of the required alloying elements to the steel to change the chemical composition of the steel and give it specific physical and chemical properties. For example, by adding vanadium or niobium the strength and wear resistance of steel can be increased.

- Deoxygenation: For example, cored wire containing elements such as aluminum or calcium can react with oxygen in the steel water to produce oxides, thus achieving deoxygenation and improving the purity of the steel.

- Desulfurization: Elements such as calcium and barium can react with sulfur to generate sulfide, thus reducing the sulfur content in steel and improving the ductility and anti-cracking properties of steel.

- Refine grain: Certain alloying elements such as titanium, niobium, etc. can promote grain refinement of steel and enhance the toughness and mechanical properties of steel.

- Inclusion treatment: Calcium, magnesium and other elements can react with non-metallic inclusions in steel to change the inclusions' morphology, reduce their size, and improve the toughness and impact resistance of steel.

alloy cored wire types

According to the different alloy compositions, alloy cored wire can be divided into the following categories:

- Calcium cored wire: mainly used for deoxygenation and desulfurization to improve the quality and fluidity of steel.

- Titanium cored wire: used to refine the grain and improve the wear resistance and hardness of steel.

- Aluminum cored wire: used for deoxidation, inclusions treatment and improve the toughness of steel.

- Vanadium cored wire: used to improve the strength and wear resistance of steel, commonly used in high-strength structural steel.

- Calcium silicate cored wire: strong deoxidation and desulfurization ability, suitable for high purity steel production.
