Various additives (deoxidizer, desulfurizer, modifier, alloy, etc.) to be added to molten steel or molten iron are crushed into a certain particle size, and then wrapped into a composite material with arbitrary length by cold-rolled steel strip, which is a cored wire. Alloy cored wires include: calcium silicate cored wires, titanium iron cored wires, boron iron cored wires, carbon cored wires, etc.

Because the core material is directly inserted into molten steel in the ladle, it will not be oxidized and burned, so the problem of nozzle blockage of aluminum deoxidized steel in the process of continuous casting steel ironmaking can be eliminated. There are two kinds of core coil: external drawing and internal drawing. Core winding drum should be strictly packed to ensure that it is free from moisture and external pollution during storage or transportation. 

Because alloying elements are added in the deep part of molten steel, the recovery rate of alloying elements is high and stable, the cost required for smelting can be reduced, the smelting time can be shortened, and the composition can be accurately controlled. Besides, The cored wire can purify steel and partially change the nature and shape of inclusions, and improve the quality of molten steel and casting state. Therefore, it has been recognized by more and more steel casting plants including China. However, several existing cored wires containing calcium or calcium alloys still have defects. For example, at high refining temperature, metallic calcium is rapidly gasified after being exposed, which is easy to cause the liquid level of steel slag to churn or even splash, and ultimately affects the yield of calcium.
