Smelting process of ferrosilicon production

 

 

Smelting is the core process of ferrosilicon production. First, the selected quartz sand and iron ore are mixed in a certain proportion and reduced under high temperature. Usually, electric furnaces or blast furnaces are used for in-furnace reactions. In the electric furnace, the mixture is heated to a high temperature by electric energy and a reducing agent is added to reduce the iron oxide in the iron ore to ferrous oxide, which then reacts with the silicon dioxide in the quartz sand to form ferrosilicon alloy. In the furnace, there are also a series of physical and chemical reactions, such as carbon oxidation reaction, reduction reaction, melting reaction, etc. Ferrosilicon alloys of different specifications and compositions can be obtained by controlling temperature, oxidation-reduction conditions, and additives.

 

After smelting, the ferrosilicon alloy needs to be cast, and the most common method is casting. The molten ferrosilicon alloy is poured into a mold and cooled to obtain a ferrosilicon casting. During the casting process, it is necessary to control the solidification process of the casting to avoid defects such as pores and inclusions. At the same time, subsequent treatments such as surface cleaning and trimming are also required according to requirements.
