Phosphorus iron used in steelmaking is mainly used to increase the phosphorus content in molten steel, and the resulting steel has good cutting properties. The method of obtaining ferrophosphorus is mainly from phosphorus-smelting electric furnaces, in which the phosphorus content is 20~26%. As an alloying agent in the steelmaking industry, it can also produce phosphates.

There are two varieties of phosphorus iron produced in my country, FeP1 and FeP2, containing 15-20% phosphorus. The atomic number of phosphorus is 15, the atomic weight is 30.97, the outer electronic structure is 3S3P, and the density is 1.83g/cm3 (white phosphorus) 2.2g/cm3 (Red phosphorus), melting point 44℃, boiling point 257℃, there are phosphides such as Fe3P, Fe2P, FeP, FeP2, etc., containing 18%~25% phosphorus iron, melting temperature range 1100~1250℃, density 5.8~6.5g/ cm3.

Many steelmaking experts call ferrophosphorus an "indispensable" ferroalloy product in steelmaking. It can enhance the fluidity of molten iron. When using, the phosphorus content index should be strictly controlled to ensure that the phosphorus iron is wear-resistant and brittle, and to improve the overall wear resistance.

The phosphorus content is about 0.15%, which can significantly improve the wear resistance of cast iron, increase the tensile strength of steel, improve the performance and surface quality of castings, improve thermal conductivity and heat resistance, and effectively improve the distribution network of phosphorus eutectic in castings. The excellent thermal conductivity and heat resistance make the wear surface uniform and less likely to produce sparks during friction. It can be seen that ferrophosphorus does play a great role in steelmaking. It is no wonder that experts call it an indispensable smelting material for steelmaking.
