Wholesale Foundry in China Using FeSi/Ferrosilicon 70 72 75 Granule for Steel Making/Casting
Ferrosilicon is produced by reducing silica or sand with coke in the presence of iron. Typical iron sources are scrap iron and mill scale. Ferro Silicon 75 with a silicon content up to about 15% is made in blast furnaces lined with acidic refractory bricks. Ferro silicon with higher silicon content is made in electric arc furnaces.
Common formulations on the market are Ferro Silicon Lumps containing 15%, 45%, 75%, and 90% silicon. The rest is iron, and about 2% consists of other elements such as aluminum and calcium. Excess silica is used to prevent the formation of silicon carbide. Microsilica is a useful by-product. The mineral ferrosilite is similar to Ferro Silicon Granules, with a composition of Fe5Si2.
When in contact with water, Ferro Silicon Alloy may slowly generate hydrogen. This reaction is accelerated in the presence of alkalis and is used to produce hydrogen. The melting point and density of FeSi ferrosilicon depend on its silicon content.
