Some Information About Ferro Titanium

Some Information About Ferro Titanium

Ferrotitanium is an alloy that consists of a mixture of titanium and iron. Titanium is a very strong, corrosion-resistant, and lightweight metal, whereas iron is a common metallic element. Combining these two metals results in a high-strength, corrosion-resistant alloy that is suitable for a variety of industrial applications.

How ferrotitanium is mined?

Ferrotitanium is an important metal material, which has a wide range of applications in aerospace, shipbuilding, automobile manufacturing and other fields. Its mining is mainly divided into two steps: ore mining and smelting.

First of all, the mining of ferrotitanium mainly refers to the extraction of fertilite from ilmenite. Ilmenite mainly includes rutile, illifingite, etc., which contain a higher content of titanium oxide. Mining operations are generally carried out in the form of open-pit mining or underground mining, and the ore is removed and crushed and screened through blasting, excavation and other operations.

This is followed by the smelting process, in which the extracted ilmenite is refined to remove impurities and oxides to obtain a higher purity ilmenium. There are two types of smelting methods commonly used: chlorination and smelting.

The chlorination method is to react ilmenite with chlorinating agent at high temperature to produce gaseous titanium oxide and metal chloride, and then obtain pure metal titanium through reduction reaction. The smelting method is to melt the ore and the reducing agent at high temperature, so that the oxides in it are reduced to titanium metal, and finally pure titanium iron metal is obtained.

In the process of mining and smelting, it is necessary to strictly control the process parameters and quality standards to ensure that the produced titanium iron metal has sufficient purity and product quality. At the same time, it is also necessary to attach importance to environmental protection work, take measures to reduce the impact on the environment, and protect the ecological environment.

How to smelt titanium iron?

Ferrotitanium melting is a complex and delicate process that requires strict control of temperature, pressure, and chemical composition. The following are the main steps of ferrotitanium smelting:

1. Raw material preparation: Ferrotitanium is usually prepared by reducing titanium ore. After the ore is grinding, beneficiating, crushing, etc., it is mixed with reducing agent pulverized coal to form a reducing charge.

2. Iron-making reaction: Before smelting, the furnace chamber and the charging front desk must be cleaned, and the production log should be registered. The reduction charge is then heated in a high-temperature furnace, and the titanium oxide in the ore is reduced to ferrotitanium through a reduction reaction.

3. Cleaning: After a period of reaction, the furnace needs to be cleaned to remove residual slag and impurities. At the same time, the product needs to be separated, cooled and treated.

4. Refining process: Absorb and remove impurities from the product by adding lime or other ores. This process usually needs to be repeated several times to ensure that the quality of the ferrotitanium produced is the required amount.

5. Crystallization and solidification: The final liquid ferrotitanium will gradually crystallize and solidify after cooling, forming solid ferrotitanium products in the form of blocks or granules.

6. Post-processing: The melting temperature and composition of the produced ferrotitanium are tested to ensure that the product quality meets the standards. It is then packaged, stored and transported, and finally delivered to the customer or used for downstream production.
