Ferro vanadium 60 can be subdivided into two more specific types of ferrovanadium. The first is ferrovanadium 60-A, which contains 58-65 percent vanadium, 1.5 percent aluminum, and 0.6 percent phosphorus.

1.Smelting method of ferro vanadium 60: electrosilicon thermal method Flake vanadium pentoxide uses 75% ferrosilicon and a small amount of aluminum as reducing agent, and in the alkaline electric arc furnace, the qualified product is refined in two stages of reduction and refining. During the reduction period, all the reducing agent and flake vanadium pentoxide accounting for 60~70% of the total amount are loaded into the electric furnace, and silicon thermal reduction is carried out under the slag of high calcium oxide.

2.In the process of ferro vanadium 60 smelting, when the V2O5 in the slag is less than 0.35%, the slag (called poor slag, which can be discarded or used as building materials) is released and transferred to the refining period. At this time, flake vanadium pentoxide and lime are added to remove the excess silicon, aluminum, etc. in the alloy liquid, and the slag and ferroalloy can be produced until the alloy composition meets the requirements. The slag released at the end of refining is called rich slag, and it is returned for use when the next furnace starts to be filled. The molten alloy is generally cast into cylindrical ingots, which are cooled, demolded, crushed and cleaned as the finished product. This method is generally used for the smelting of ferrovanadium containing 40~60% vanadium. The recovery rate of vanadium can reach 98%. The power consumption per ton of ferrovanadium is about 1,600 kW·h.

3.There is another smelting method of ferro vanadium 60: 75% ferrosilicon and aluminum are used as reducing agents. Ferrovanadium containing V40%~60% is produced in an improved three-phase alkaline electric arc furnace. The transformer capacity of the electric arc furnace is 1800kVA, the working voltage is 127/220V, and the rated current is 4750A. The graphite electrode diameter is 200mm. Use magnesia bricks as the furnace lining. The lid is made of chrome magnesium bricks. The raw materials used are: vanadium pentoxide fused flakes, ferrosilicon, aluminum blocks, lime and carbon steel scrap or steel scrap. Reaction of silicon to vanadium oxide3. The reaction produces SiO2. Low-valent vanadium oxides are basic compounds that adversely affect the reduction of vanadium. For this purpose, lime needs to be added to increase the alkalinity of the slag and promote the reduction of vanadium oxides.
