Ferrovanadium is an important alloy additive in the steel industry.
FeV alloy is also the undisputed protagonist in steel production and chemistry.
A Swedish chemist discovered a mysterious element in a piece of cast iron and named it "Vanadium" after Vanadis, the Scandinavian goddess of beauty and love. Vanadium is not used by itself, but is added in small amounts to steel to make it stainless-like and more resistant to shock and vibration: this is the basis for jet engines, power tools and armor. Vanadium compounds are useful catalysts in chemical reactions, that is, they help different elements react together without being consumed.
Many homes and garages contain chromium vanadium steel products, such as metal parts for tools such as pliers.
Applications: Vanadium added to steel provides stability to alkalis as well as sulfuric and hydrochloric acids. Vanadium is used in the production of tool steel, aircraft steel, high-strength high-tensile steel, spring steel, railway steel and oil pipeline steel.
