Generally, vanadium pentoxide is produced first, and then ferrovanadium is produced from vanadium pentoxide.
85% to 90% of ferrovanadium is used in steel production because adding vanadium as an alloying agent can improve the strength and toughness of steel, as well as its ability to withstand impact loads and corrosion resistance.

Metal vanadium can also be used in magnetic materials, cast iron, cemented carbide, superconducting, and nuclear reactor materials.
