Metallurgical Product Description
Ferrovanadium is an important alloy additive in the steel industry. 85% to 90% of ferrovanadium is used in steel production because adding vanadium as an alloying agent can improve the strength and toughness of steel, as well as its ability to withstand impact loads and corrosion resistance.
The main raw material for ferrovanadium production in China is vanadium-titanium magnetite. In addition, vanadium pentoxide is also extracted directly from vanadium-containing iron concentrates or vanadium-containing carbonaceous shale through chemical treatment.
method of processing
Ferrovanadium production methods mainly include the electrosilicothermal method, thermite method, direct alloying of vanadium slag, etc. The silicon thermal method can produce mid-range ferrovanadium and silicon ferrovanadium alloys, and the thermite method can produce high-quality ferrovanadium alloys. Direct alloying of vanadium slag can save costs by eliminating the step of extracting vanadium from vanadium slag, but the product quality is low due to the presence of a large number of impurities of other elements. Generally speaking, the vanadium content in ferrovanadium is more than 40%, the melting point of this material is 1480°C, and the bulk density is 3.3~3.9t/m3.

application of the Product
In ordinary low-alloy steel, vanadium mainly refines the grains, increases the strength of the steel, and inhibits its aging effect; in heat-resistant steel and hydrogen-resistant steel, vanadium also plays a beneficial role. The vanadium added to cast iron, due to the formation of carbonization promotes the formation of pearlite, stabilizes cementite, makes the shape of graphite particles fine and uniform, and refines the grains of the matrix, thereby improving the hardness, and tensile strength, and wear resistance of the casting.
