Silicothermic Reduction ferrovanadium process Process
Produces medium-grade ferrovanadium (40–70% V).Raw Materials: Vanadium oxides (V₂O₅). Ferrosilicon (FeSi, 75% Si) as the reducing agent. Fluxes (e.g., lime). Process Steps: Charge V₂O₅, FeSi, and lime into an electric arc furnace. Heat to 1,500–1,700°C to initiate reduction: V2O5+5Si→2V+5SiO2. Add iron to adjust the final alloy composition. Separate ferrovanadium from silica-rich slag.
Advantages:
Moderate carbon content (better than carbothermic).
Cost-effective for mid-range vanadium grades.
Disadvantages:
Requires precise control of silicon and flux ratios.
