1. The purpose of ferro vanadium is to smelt alloy steel. About 90% of vanadium consumed is used in the steel industry. Vanadium in common low alloy steel is mainly used to refine grain, increase steel strength and inhibit its aging effect. In alloyed structural steels, grains are refined to increase the strength and toughness of the steel. It can be used with chromium or manganese in spring steel to increase the elastic limit of steel and improve its quality. Tool steel is mainly to refine the structure and grain of steel, improve the tempering stability of steel, enhance the secondary hardening effect, improve wear resistance, and extend the service life of tools. Vanadium also plays a beneficial role in heat-resistant and hydrogen-resistant steels; The addition of vanadium to cast iron, due to the formation of carbides, promotes the formation of pearlite, stabilizes cementite, makes the shape of graphite particles small and uniform, refining the matrix grains, thereby improving the hardness, tensile strength and wear resistance of castings.
2. Ferro vanadium: Ferric vanadium is an iron alloy, obtained by reducing v2o5 with carbon in an electric furnace, and can also be obtained by reducing v2o5 with an electric furnace silicothermal method. It is widely used as an elemental additive in the smelting of vanadium alloy steel and alloy cast iron, and is also used in the manufacture of permanent magnets. The iron vanadium produced in China includes v401 and v402, which contains about 40% vanadium.
