Graphite Electrode Machining
Carbon graphite electrodes are conductive materials produced with anthracite and metallurgical coke as main raw materials (sometimes with a small amount of natural graphite or graphitized scraps). Carbon Graphite have a specific resistance 2 to 3 times higher than graphitized electrodes, and have a higher compressive strength at room temperature than graphitized electrodes, but their thermal conductivity and oxidation resistance are inferior to graphitized electrodes. As the main raw materials are anthracite and metallurgical coke with high ash content, the ash content of carbon graphite electrodes is generally 6 to 10%.
Carbon Graphite are suitable for smelting ordinary electric furnace steel and ferroalloys in medium and small electric furnaces and ferroalloy furnaces. As the ash content of carbon graphite electrodes is relatively high, they are not suitable for smelting high-grade alloy steel. The raw materials for Carbon Graphite are easier to obtain, and graphitization is not required during production, so the cost of the product is much lower than that of graphitized electrodes.
The product is machined after roasting. Machining includes smoothing the surface and turning threaded joint holes for connection at both ends, as well as turning joints for connecting two products. To better connect two electrodes, several kilograms of carbon paste made of graphite powder, syrup, and water should be provided for each ton of finished product, which is applied to the joint holes during product connection.
