Basic principles of calcium carbide production
Industrial calcium carbide is made of quicklime and carbon raw materials (lignite, coke, etc.) in an electric furnace at a high temperature of 1900-2200℃ according to the equation: CaO+3C→CaC2+CO-466 kJ.
Calcium carbide is a chemical combination of lime and carbon. For each molecule of calcium carbide, one molecule of calcium oxide and three atoms of carbon are required. For each molecule of calcium carbide, 466 kJ of heat needs to be absorbed.
