Green Silicon Carbide (SiC) powder is an abrasive made from silicon carbide (SiC), usually produced by reacting quartz sand with coke at high temperatures in an electric arc furnace. Green Silicon Carbide is so named because of the small amount of salt added during the production process and its green colour. It is one of the common types of silicon carbide powders used in industrial production and is extremely hard, temperature resistant and chemically stable.
Green Silicon Carbide powder characteristics
1. Extremely high hardness: The hardness of green silicon carbide is second only to diamond, with a Mohs hardness of up to 9.4, which enables it to be used for processing very hard materials.
2. High Thermal Conductivity: Silicon carbide has excellent thermal conductivity and can effectively dissipate heat in high temperature environments, making it suitable for use as a heat transfer material.
3. High purity: Green silicon carbide is usually purer than black silicon carbide and contains very little free silicon and free carbon, resulting in better physical properties and stability.
4. Excellent chemical resistance: It has excellent resistance to acids, alkalis and corrosion, and can be used in harsh chemical environments.
5. High melting point: The melting point of green silicon carbide is as high as 2600°C, which provides good stability at high temperatures.
