ZhenAn Calcium carbide: Production process of calcium carbide
The chemical name of calcium carbide is calcium carbide, and its molecular formula is CaC2. Chemically pure calcium carbide is almost colorless and transparent. Extremely pure calcium carbide is large sky blue crystals, the same color as quenched steel. The main components of industrial calcium carbide are calcium carbide, and the rest are free calcium oxide, carbon, and compounds of silicon, magnesium, iron, and aluminum, as well as a small amount of phosphide and sulfide. The purity of industrial calcium carbide is about 70%-80%. The appearance is gray, brown, purple or black solids depending on the content of calcium carbide. Those with higher calcium carbide content are purple. Its newly created cross-section is shiny, and it absorbs moisture in the air and becomes gray or grayish white. The chemical properties of calcium carbide are very active. It decomposes violently when it comes into contact with water to produce acetylene gas and calcium hydroxide, and releases a lot of heat.
