Ferro Silicon Alloy

The main raw materials for producing ferrosilicon are silica, semi-coke, and iron oxide scale. Among them, silica is the main source of silicon element (Si) in ferrosilicon; semi-coke is mainly used as a carbonaceous reducing agent to reduce the silicon element in silica; iron oxide scale is mainly used as an iron-containing material to adjust the composition of ferrosilicon, especially iron. In addition, it promotes the reduction of silica in silica.

Ferrosilicon is used as a deoxidizer and alloying agent in the steelmaking industry. To obtain steel with a qualified chemical composition and ensure the quality of the steel, deoxidation is required in the later stages of steelmaking. The chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is very large, so ferrosilicon is a deoxidizer for steelmaking, used for precipitation and diffusion deoxidation. Adding a certain amount of silicon to steel can significantly improve the strength, hardness, and elasticity of the steel. Therefore, it is widely used in smelting structural steel (containing 0.40-1.75% silicon), tool steel (containing SiO.30-1.8%), and spring steel. (Containing SiO.40-2.8%) and silicon steel for transformers (containing 2.81-4.8% silicon), ferrosilicon is also used as an alloying agent.

Ferrosilicon plays a big role in steelmaking or casting, whether as a deoxidizer or alloying agent. As a deoxidizer, ferrosilicon is very beneficial to the forging of steel. In addition, taking advantage of the fact that ferrosilicon powder can release a large amount of heat when burned at high temperatures, it is often used as a heating agent for steel ingot caps to improve the quality and recovery rate of steel ingots.
