Ferrotitanium is a kind of special alloy with a wide range of uses, which is added to steel as an alloying element in the process of steelmaking, and plays a role in refining the grain structure, fixing the interstitial elements (C, N), and improving the strength of steel. When smelting stainless steel and heat-resistant steel, titanium and carbon are combined into a stable compound, which can prevent the formation of chromium carbide, thereby reducing intergranular corrosion and improving the weldability of chromium-nickel stainless steel. The product of deoxidization with titanium is easy to float, and the deoxidization with titanium in the killed steel can reduce the segregation in the upper part of the ingot, thereby improving the quality of the ingot and increasing the yield of the ingot.
Titanium combines with nitrogen dissolved in molten steel to form a stable, insoluble titanium nitride. High titanium iron is an indispensable alloy material for smelting iron base superalloy and high quality stainless steel. With the improvement of steel quality and the increase of varieties, the requirement for the quality and variety of ferrotitanium is getting higher and higher. The international market has a large demand for high titanium iron with high titanium content, but China's current ferroalloy plants generally only produce ordinary medium and low titanium iron. For w(Ti) = 65%~75%, w(Al) ≤4% of high titanium iron, few manufacturers officially produced.
