Tungsten has the second highest melting point after carbon. By combining iron with tungsten, the tendencies towards brittleness are overcome from the raw state of tungsten, and FeW is often a major component of popular super alloys.
The main application of FeW alloy includes the manufacture of bearing assembly, casting, ballast, radiation shielding, and step soldering. FeW alloy finds wide use in the manufacture of steel alloy (that contains about 15-20% of the metal tungsten) for the production of highspeed cutting tools that are capable of withholding the high levels of tensile strength and hardness at extremely high temperature.
