Ferrovanadium is a special ferroalloy widely used in industrial production, which has unique physical and chemical properties and plays an important role in steel and chemical industry. It is an iron alloy containing more than 50% vanadium. Because vanadium has a good strengthening effect and deoxidation capacity, iron vanadium is widely used in steel manufacturing.
Iron vanadium is a gray solid, usually brittle. It has a density of about 5.5-6.0g/cm³, a melting point of about 1920 ° C and a boiling point of about 3500 ° C. The thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity of iron vanadium are very low, but its thermal expansion rate is large. It reacts with oxidants to form vanadium dioxide and vanadium monoxide. It can also react with acidic substances such as acid and hydrochloric acid to form vanadium oxide and vanadium chloride.
There are two main production methods: alkali roasting reduction method and electric furnace reduction method. The former needs to first calcined vanadium iron ore by alkali limestone, so that the vanadium in it is converted into a reducible state with alkali metal hydroxide, and then reduced with reducing agent to obtain iron vanadium. The latter is to put vanadite, coal and limestone and other raw materials into an electric furnace and reduce at high temperatures.
