Classification of ferro vanadium smelting methods:
(1) Distinguished by reducing agent: According to the different reducing agents used in ferrovanadium smelting, it is usually divided into three types: carbon thermal method, silicon thermal method or aluminum thermal method.
(2) Distinguished by reduction equipment: Smelting in an electric furnace is called electric furnace method (including carbon thermal method, electric silicon thermal method and electric aluminum thermal method). The method that does not use electric furnace heating but only relies on self-reaction heat release is called aluminum thermal method
(3) Distinguished by different vanadium-containing raw materials: the method of smelting with vanadium pentoxide and vanadium trioxide raw materials and the method of directly smelting ferrovanadium with vanadium slag.

The basic principle of silicon thermal method for smelting ferrovanadium: When silicon is used to reduce vanadium oxides, the reaction proceeds very slowly and incompletely due to insufficient heat. In order to accelerate the reaction, an external heat source must be added. Generally, silicon thermal method for smelting ferrovanadium is to smelt V0, cast pieces into ferrovanadium with ferrosilicon in steelmaking arc furnace. Silicon thermal reduction, the change in free energy of reducing vanadium low-valent oxides with silicon at high temperature is positive, indicating that it is impossible to reduce vanadium low-valent oxides with silicon in acidic medium. In addition, these oxides react with silicon dioxide to form vanadium silicate, and it is more difficult to reduce vanadium from vanadium silicate.
