It is mainly used as an inoculant for cast iron and also has a strong reducing ability, so it is used as a deoxidizer for high-quality steel. Because calcium is active at steelmaking temperature, the effect is not stable, so it is usually used by adding some retarder. Silicon-calcium-barium alloy or silicon-calcium-barium-aluminum alloy, or silicon-calcium-manganese alloy are often used as deoxidizers for steel. ‌

As a composite deoxidizer and desulfurizer, silicon calcium alloy is widely used in the production of high-quality steel, low-carbon steel, stainless steel and other special alloys such as nickel-based alloy and titanium-based alloy. It can also be used as a warming agent in converter steelmaking workshops, as well as an inoculant for cast iron and an additive in nodular cast iron production. The production of silicon calcium alloy started in about 1907 by the electro-silicothermic method. In addition, calcium silicate board is also a multi-component material, which is usually composed of natural gypsum powder, white cement, glue and glass fiber. It has the properties of fire prevention, moisture-proof, sound insulation and heat insulation, and can properly adjust indoor dry humidity and increase comfort. However, these are two different materials from silicon calcium alloy, although they both contain Si and Ca as main components.

The production of silicon calcium mainly involves the alloying process of silicon and calcium. The main raw materials of silicon calcium alloy are silicon and calcium, which are usually obtained from Shi Ying and limestone. Raw materials need to be crushed and ground into fine powder to facilitate the mixing and smelting process. Powdered calcium oxide (the source of calcium) and silicon dioxide (the source of silicon) are mixed together according to the required ratio. This process ensures the correct proportion of silicon and calcium in the alloy to meet the specific application requirements.

The mixed raw materials are smelted in an electric furnace by an electric silicothermic method or an electric carbothermic method to form a silicon-calcium alloy. In this process, silicon and calcium react at high temperatures to form a silicon-calcium alloy. Other elements, such as aluminum, manganese and barium, may need to be added in the smelting process to form ternary or multicomponent composite alloys, so as to further enhance its application effect in iron and steel smelting. In the production process, it is necessary to strictly control the process parameters, such as grinding time, grading parameters, roasting temperature, etc., to ensure that the produced silicon-calcium alloy meets the quality requirements.
